The Flying Dutchman

Imaginative, whimsical paintings

L.M. Hocker has been artistically engaged most of his life. Most of his work has been in wood and other materials. His painting started in November 2020 from an interest to satisfy an evolving creative itch.

This art painting journey had origins as a way to express ponderings of an overactive mind. COVID and the state of political affairs in the United States were dark and troubled times. Lynn’s art is an extension of a mind that explores the whimsical nature of what might it look like to have two polarized concepts colliding in paint and canvas.

Breaking a traditional framework

When I started painting, I applied four rules to my journey:

  1. If you are not original, you are dead.
  2. Success is not about spontaneous combustion but setting yourself on fire.
  3. Surround yourself with great people.
  4. Do well by doing good.

My art is about what cures my creative itch and standard art norms are not relevant to me. My art is about the journey of creation and not necessarily the end destination.

Behind the Curtain

Whispering Creek Studios business model is designed to keep artwork affordable for those who find they would like to own a piece. This is accomplished by keeping the process costs as minimal as possible while maintaining museum grade quality of signed, limited edition prints. Lynn does not follow standard artist pricing practices as this inflates the art price beyond what many would be willing to pay. Lynn does not keep any revenue (income) from artwork sales but “gifts” artwork to nonprofits to support their growth and prosperity.

Living in the land of buggies

This book features the first 21 paintings by Lynn Hocker. The book discusses Lynn’s late in life art story, the inspirations and back story for each of the paintings as well as how the Whispering Creek Foundation plays a role in supporting regional nonprofits by “Doing Well By Doing Good.”
